Gurdau Winery in South Moravia blends modern architecture with traditional winemaking, offering guests exceptional wines, panoramic vineyard views, and luxurious stays in wine country.
Gurdau Winery

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of South Moravia, Czech Republic, Gurdau Winery stands as a testament to the perfect fusion of traditional winemaking and contemporary design. This hidden gem offers wine enthusiasts and design lovers alike an unforgettable experience for both the palate and the eye.

Architectural Marvel Amidst the Vines

As you approach Gurdau Winery, you’re welcomed by its bold, striking structure. Designed by architect Ales Fiala, the winery’s main building, with its clean curved lines and expansive glass facades, seems to emerge organically from the gently rolling hills of the Moravian countryside. The architecture, designed to complement rather than compete with its natural context, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards.

A Legacy Reimagined

While the winery’s appearance is decidedly modern, its roots run deep. The Gurdau Winery was founded in 2012 and the first vineyards were planted in 2013. However, the valley’s winemaking heritage stretches back over 1000 years. Between 1945 and 2013, viticulture in Kurdějov disappeared but with the planting of the vineyards, Gurdau is reviving the legacy and continuing the tradition. This philosophy extends from the property’s architecture to their winemaking practices.

The Tasting Experience

The interior of Gurdau Winery is just as impressive as its exterior. The tasting room, with its soaring ceilings and minimalist décor, creates an atmosphere of understated elegance. Here, visitors can sample a curated selection of Gurdau’s finest wines, including their renowned Riesling, Veltliner, and Pinot Blanc.

Large windows offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, allowing guests to feel connected to the surrounding terroir. The play of natural light throughout the space changes with the time of day and seasons, creating an ever-evolving ambiance.

Wake Up to Wine Country

One of the special aspects about this property is the opportunity to extend your visit beyond a simple tasting. The winery offers two exquisitely designed guest rooms, with each room carefully designed, featuring sleek furnishings, expansive windows, and private terraces that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards.

Sustainability in Design and Practice

Gurdau Winery’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of its operation. The building itself incorporates numerous eco-friendly features, from its green roof to its state-of-the-art temperature control systems that minimize energy consumption. In the vineyards, traditional and organic farming methods are employed to ensure the health of both the grapes and the broader ecosystem.

Beyond Wine

While wine is undoubtedly the star at Gurdau, the winery offers much more than just tastings. Visitors can take guided tours of the vineyards and production facilities, gaining insight into the intricate process of winemaking. Private lunches and dinners are also offered, prepared by a former sous chef from a 2-Michelin-Star restaurant. A seasonal tasting menu paired with Gurdau’s wines is another available option.

For the active guest, the winery offers cycling tours through the beautiful Moravian countryside, allowing you to explore the region’s rich history and stunning landscapes.

A Design-Forward Destination

Gurdau Winery is more than just a place to taste exceptional wines; it’s a design destination in its own right. It stands as a shining example of how thoughtful, modern architecture can enhance and elevate the traditional wine country experience. For those seeking a perfect blend of aesthetic beauty, gastronomic delight, and viticultural excellence, Gurdau Winery in the Czech Republic is an absolute must-visit.

Gurdau is perfect escape for wine lovers and architecture enthusiasts alike.
